Tier 1 General category has been closed by the Home Office for extension applications. Extension of stay under this category was only possible if application for extension was made before 6 April 2015. From 6 April 2015, it is not possible for a Tier 1 General Migrant to seek extension of stay within this catgory. However, it is still possible for Tier 1 General Migrants to apply for ILR under this category before 6 April 2018.
Although from 6 April 2015 the TIer 1 General extension is no longer possible for the main applicants (the Tier 1 General Migrants), there is no such restriction on the dependants of Tier 1 General Migrant to seek an extension of stay after 6 April 2015 if they qualify for extension under paragraph 319C of the Immigration Rules.
Those Tier 1 General Migrants who cannot qualify for ILR under Tier 1 Genenral category before 6 April 2018 have the option of switching into other visa categories so that they may qualify for ILR under such other route they switch into.
