This visa provides a pathway to settlement, allowing eligible individuals to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) after five years of continuous residence in the UK under this category.
Applications under this route must comply with the requirements outlined in Appendix International Sportsperson of the UK Immigration Rules. One of the key requirements is obtaining a Governing Body Endorsement from a recognised sports governing body, as listed in Appendix Sports Governing Bodies.
Applicants seeking permission to stay for more than 12 months must also meet the English language requirement.
The International Sportsperson route also allows for family reunification. Eligible partners and children may apply to join or remain in the UK as dependants under this visa category.

You only need to meet the English language requirement for an international sportsperson visa if you are applying for a visa to stay in the UK for more than 12 months. In such cases, you must prove your knowledge of English to at least CEFR Level A1 (speaking and listening).

Yes. You can work as a sportsperson or coach as endorsed, and undertake limited study, but you cannot take employment outside your endorsed sporting role unless specifically allowed.
Yes, certain visa holders in the UK may be able to switch into the International Sportsperson visa route, provided they meet all the eligibility criteria. However, visitors and some other short-term visa holders are not eligible to switch.
