The Scale-up Worker visa allows highly skilled workers to come to the UK to work for fast-growing UK businesses (known as scale-up businesses). This visa also provides a route to settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) after 5 years of residence in the UK.
The sponsoring company must be UK‑registered and either:
- Show ≥20 % annual growth (in turnover or staff) over the past 3 years with at least 10 employees 3 years ago; or
- Have an endorsement from an approved body (if too new)
Approved endorsing bodies include Investors Limited, UK Endorsing Services, Innovator International, and the Global Entrepreneurs Programme.
To be eligible for a scale-up worker visa, you must:
- Be ≥18 and have a job offer from an eligible scale‑up sponsor;
- Have a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) valid within 3 months;
Be doing a job on the eligible list at RQF6+ skill level and meeting salary requirements;
Meet English proficiency (B1 CEFR or equivalent, such as GCSE, degree, or test)
The salary for the job for which the applicant is being sponsored must equal or exceed all of the following:
- £36,300 per year; and
- the going rate for the SOC 2020 occupation code.
Yes, there is a financial requirement for a scale-up worker visa application. You can meet the financial requirement in one of the following ways:
- If you are applying for entry clearance, you should provide evidence of £1,270 in personal savings for not less than 28 consecutive days before applying, unless your sponsor certifies they’ll support you; or
- If switching within the UK after living lawfully in the UK for at least 12 months on another visa, this requirement may be waived.
- An initial sponsored visa is granted for 2 years, with a sponsorship tie for the first 6 months. After 6 months of working with the sponsoring employer, the scale-up worker can work without sponsorship, switch jobs, work self-employed, study, etc.
- Extension of scale-up worker visa is granted for a period up to 3 years via an unsponsored route (must show PAYE earnings ≥ threshold for ≥50% of stay.
